Privacy Policy
You're trusting us with photos of your home and a list of everything you own, at a vulnerable moment. That's not lost on us. The short version: we store your data securely, use it only to run the service for you, never sell it, and delete it when you ask.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, used for sign-in links and service messages.
- Inventory data: the items, descriptions, values, and chat conversation you create in the app.
- Photos: images you upload for analysis, stored in a private bucket accessible only to your account.
- Payment: handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
How we use it
- To operate the service: your photos and chat messages are sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate item lists, interview questions, and price estimates. Per Anthropic's commercial API terms, this data is not used to train their models.
- To support you if something goes wrong.
- Nothing else. We do not sell or rent your data, run ads against it, share it with data brokers, or use your inventory for any purpose other than serving you.
Where it lives
Data is stored with Supabase (database and file storage) on infrastructure in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is isolated per account: database security rules ensure your records are readable only by your login.
Insurers and third parties
We never send anything to your insurance company or anyone else. You export your inventory yourself and decide who receives it.
Retention and deletion
Your data is retained while your account is active so you can return to your claim. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data (including photos) at any time via the contact page; we complete deletion within 30 days. We may retain minimal payment records as required by tax law.
Law enforcement and legal process
We disclose data only when legally compelled to, and will notify you unless prohibited from doing so.
Children
Recount is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
Material changes will be posted here with a new date, and — for changes affecting how your existing data is handled — emailed to you.
