Terms of Service
1. What Recount is
Recount is a software tool that helps you create a written inventory of your personal property, typically after a loss such as a fire, flood, or storm. It uses artificial intelligence to help you recall items, organize them, and attach estimated replacement values and depreciation that you review and control.
2. What Recount is not
Recount is not a public adjuster, insurance adjuster, appraiser, insurance advisor, or law firm, and does not act on your behalf in any insurance matter. Specifically, Recount and its operators do not:
- communicate or negotiate with any insurance company, adjuster, or their representatives on your behalf;
- advise you on insurance coverage, policy interpretation, settlement strategy, or the value your insurer should pay;
- prepare, submit, or advocate for your claim;
- provide appraisals, certified valuations, or legal advice.
You prepare and submit your own claim, make every decision about it, and remain solely responsible for its contents and accuracy. If you want representation or advice, consult a licensed public adjuster or attorney in your state.
3. Estimates, not appraisals
All values produced by the service — including replacement costs, useful-life figures, depreciation, and actual cash value — are automated estimates provided as a starting point for your own review. They are not appraisals and carry no guarantee of accuracy or of acceptance by any insurer. You can and should adjust any value before using your inventory. Your insurer makes its own determinations; Recount makes no promise about any claim outcome.
4. Your account and your data
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for maintaining access to your sign-in email. Your inventory data and photos belong to you. We access them only to operate the service (see our Privacy Policy). You may export your data at any time and may request deletion of your account and data.
5. Acceptable use
You agree to use Recount only to document property you own or are authorized to document, and not to create false or fraudulent inventories. Submitting a false insurance claim is a crime in every state. We may suspend accounts used for apparent fraud and may cooperate with lawful requests from authorities.
6. Payment and refunds
The service is a one-time fee per claim, charged at purchase via Stripe. If the service does not help you document your loss, contact us within 14 days of purchase for a refund as described on the pricing page.
7. AI limitations
The service uses AI models that can make mistakes — misidentifying items in photos, suggesting inaccurate prices, or misunderstanding your descriptions. The service is designed for your review and correction, and you are responsible for verifying your final inventory before submitting it to anyone.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Recount's total liability arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid for it. Recount is not liable for any claim outcome, denial, delay, or underpayment by any insurer, or for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
9. Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
